Design cost calculator
Free tool · By Utkarsh Dhairya Panwar · Updated
Pick the work (website, MVP, redesign, UX audit or brand), its size and who would do it. The calculator shows the public market range, where a scope like yours usually lands, and the source of every figure. It's all public listings and surveys, none of it my pricing.
Estimate your project
The interactive version of this tool runs in your browser on this page; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Every figure here is a public market range. My own starting prices are on the pricing page, kept apart from this data on purpose.
What most website cost calculators get wrong
Most calculators that answer "how much does website design cost" ask you to tick features and then print one number. You can't see where the number comes from. Usually it's the agency's own rate card, so it tells you what that agency charges and very little about the market.
This one only shows figures I could trace to a public source, and it names the source next to each one. Where the calculator has no reliable public figure, it says so instead of inventing one. Size and complexity don't produce new numbers either. They only move you toward the end of the public range where a scope like yours tends to land.
One gap: the calculator doesn't show a freelancer range for MVP design. Outside it, ParallelHQ (July 2026) lists $3,000 to $15,000 for a freelancer-designed MVP. Hourly rates by country are in my guide to freelance product designer cost.
Where the numbers come from
| Source | What it says | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| Framer, Contra and Fiverr listings | Framer site packages from a few hundred USD to $3,000+ | 2026 |
| Contra profiles | Framer experts in India at around $25 to $75/hr | 2026 |
| Clutch, web design pricing | Firms typically $100 to $149/hr; builder-based firms $25 to $49/hr; most projects under $10,000, average about $38,000 | October 2026 |
| Clutch, UX/UI pricing | Most projects $10,000 to $49,999; average about $85,000; $25 to $49/hr average | October 2026 |
| Clutch, branding pricing | Most projects $10,000 to $49,999; average about $72,000; $100 to $149/hr | October 2026 |
| 99designs pricing page | Logo contests at $249, $399, $799 and $1,050 | October 2026 |
| Designjoy pricing page | Design subscription at $4,995 a month | October 2026 |
| Dribbble, Upwork and Contra listings | Scoped SaaS UX audits at roughly $250 to $800+ | 2026 |
Two cautions. A few very large projects pull Clutch's averages up, which is why the average sits far above the most common band. Marketplace packages also often cover only design or only build, so compare like with like.
What moves the price
In my experience the biggest swing comes from how clearly the problem is written down. Page count matters less. "Redesign onboarding" could take months, while "users drop at one named step" is a focused job.
- Content: who writes the copy and when it arrives. Waiting on content is the most common reason timelines slip.
- States and roles: an admin view, a member view and an error path triple the screens behind one feature.
- Build: a Framer site designed and built by one person is a different quote from design files handed to your engineers.
- Visual ambition: custom illustration, motion or 3D sits on top of everything else.
Using the range in a real conversation
Bring the range to your first call as a sanity check, not as a budget cap. If a quote sits far outside the public band, ask what it includes that the band doesn't cover, such as research, copy, build, a CMS or a design system. There's usually a reason, and it helps to know which line item it is.
To get quotes you can compare, send every designer the same brief. The design brief template has a builder that turns your answers into a one-page brief any designer can price.
